Miller’s Equestrian Center and Sanctuary Raises Funds for Local Children and Horses

Third Annual Rescue Ride/Hike fundraiser to be held Sunday, November 14, 2010

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA― Miller’s Equestrian Center and Sanctuary hosts their third annual fundraiser Rescue Ride/Hike at Santa Margarita Ranch on Sunday, November 14th. This yearly event raises money to sustain Miller’s Equestrian Center and Sanctuary, an equestrian program that benefits horses and children through the rescue and care of unwanted or abused horses. The Rescue Ride/Hike is a fun-filled day complete with horse rides, hikes, silent auctions, vendors, activities for children, dancing and live music.

Ten years ago, founder of Miller’s Equestrian Center & Sanctuary, Michele Miller, opened the 501c(3) non-profit

"Dad and Me" class

Equestrian Center & Sanctuary in San Luis Obispo and fulfilled her life dream of providing a home for abused and abandoned horses while simultaneously offering the invaluable experience of growth, learning and love of horses for children.

The dual-purpose organization is a blessing for everyone involved. Each rescued horse is tracked with a management program to ensure the best mental and physical care possible. Miller’s is a no-kill sanctuary. It provides rehabilitation for injured and unwanted horses and allows them to live out their lives happily and with dignity. Horses in the sanctuary can be sold, adopted, used as companions, or sponsored. These same horses are given a new purpose as well; they become a learning experience for a child. The organization focuses on a learn-by-doing philosophy for the children, and through their interaction with horses, children learn patience, a positive work ethic, responsibility and love. They also experience the outdoors with their horses, build their self-esteem and self-confidence, and learn through the center, to work productively within a team.

Miller’s Equestrian Center & Sanctuary is funded by grants and fundraisers, as well as individual and corporate donations. These tax-deductible donations are vital to sustaining this program which benefits children and horses alike.

For those who enjoy riding, a poker ride and a joker ride are scheduled for the morning and a three-mile hike is scheduled for all who want to show their support without mounting a horse. The afternoon will feature dinner, wine, live and silent auctions, local vendors, children’s activities, and dancing, featuring live music from entertainer Monte Mills. Tickets are available at West End Espresso & Tea (805) 543-4092 at 670 Higuera St. in San Luis Obispo. Call (805) 235-3834 or visit www.millersecs.org for more information.
